This session focuses on the years of training required to achieve the highest level of classical horsemanship, showcasing the development from young, grey colts to fully trained white stallions.

Visitors observe the horses performing various exercises, including relaxation techniques and the refinement of specific movements. The training takes place in the Winter Riding School, a Baroque indoor arena located within the Hofburg Palace, accompanied by classical Viennese music.

The Spanish Riding School is situated within the Hofburg Palace complex in the center of Vienna. Located near Michaelerplatz, the institution sits adjacent to the Imperial Treasury and the Austrian National Library. The entrance for the training sessions is typically located under the Michaelerkuppel, the large copper dome that serves as a central landmark for the palace.

How to get to the activity

1. On foot

Walk through the city center toward Michaelerplatz. The school is easily reachable from Stephansplatz by following the Kohlmarkt pedestrian street.

2. By metro

Ride the U3 orange line to the Herrengasse station. From there, it is a three-minute walk to reach the palace gates.

3. By bus

Take bus lines 1A or 2A and exit at the Michaelerplatz stop, which is located directly in front of the entrance.

4. By tram

Use tram lines 1, 2, or D to the Burgring stop. A short walk through the Heldenplatz leads to the school.

5. By train

Travel to Wien Hauptbahnhof and transfer to the U1 metro line toward Stephansplatz, then walk ten minutes to the imperial complex.

6. By car or taxi

Request a drop-off at Michaelerplatz. Drivers should note that the surrounding area is a pedestrian zone with limited public parking available.
