Location of the activity

📍 Address: Hofburg – Michaelerkuppel, 1010 Vienna, Austria

The Hofburg Palace is located in the very center of Vienna, surrounded by other iconic landmarks such as Heldenplatz, the Austrian National Library, and the Spanish Riding School. The entrance to the Sisi Museum is through the Michaeler Gate, marked by its distinctive copper dome.

You can find the exact location on the map below to plan your route easily.

How to Get to the activity

The most convenient way to reach Hofburg Palace is by metro. Take Line U3 (orange line) and get off at Herrengasse Station, which is just a short 5-minute walk from the main entrance at Michaelerplatz. From the station, follow the signs toward Hofburg or Heldenplatz, and you’ll soon see the palace’s iconic dome rising ahead.

Visitors can also reach Hofburg Palace comfortably by bus. Take lines 1A or 2A, which both stop at Hofburg or Michaelerplatz, just steps from the museum entrance. Buses run frequently through the city center and are an excellent option for those traveling from nearby districts or shopping areas like Graben and Kohlmarkt.

If you prefer a more scenic route, take one of Vienna’s historic trams that circle the Ringstrasse boulevard. Trams 1, 2, D, and 71 all stop at Burgring, located right next to the Hofburg complex. From there, it’s just a 3-minute walk through the park to reach the main entrances.

While the historic center of Vienna is largely pedestrianized, you can still visit Hofburg Palace by car. Several public parking garages are available nearby, such as the Kärntnerring Garage, Tiefgarage Am MuseumsQuartier, and Garage Freyung — all within a 5 to 10-minute walk of the palace.
